Shellfish are unique because they take up nitrogen across all sources, whether from lawn fertilizer, deposition from the atmosphere, or treated wastewater. Residents of the community benefit from shellfish aquaculture whether or not they eat oysters, as they enjoy improved water quality and taxpayers can save money.

I'm not a fan of depleting a resource but I'm also not a preservationist.

Same here but this means we should be more actively looking to grow aquaculture farms for bivalves, just my opinion. Besides, I love eating them so growing more keeps costs down a little bit.

Thanks for posting this. Did not know that bivalves really are encuronmental fighters, as well as tasting great.

You’re welcome. A large part of what I did in my life’s work was conducting evaluations for environmental clearances. This means, like it of not I became half tree hugger. I am drawn to the cause and effect of just about and environmental response you can think of like a moth is to flame. I can’t help myself.
