MAJ Byron Oyler - I was a professional chef until 2012. In the guard and active duty I was a culinary specialist. I was forever washing my hands throughout the day and not touching my face with my hands. After work I continued that practice as a matter of habit. If ill I didn't go to work, and if others were ill they were sent home. The last time I had the flu was when I was 15, and I am 51 this year. I have gotten the flu vaccine three times in my life because I have a reaction every time I get the vaccine. Still, no flu. Proper hand hygiene works. Distancing works. Beyond that, I think not much else does except possibly the vaccine.

SFC Melvin Brandenburg - To be completely honest, for someone like you it is not so much the number of times you caught a respiratory bug but the number of times you have caught a GI bug. Chefs deal with as many nasty bugs as that affect the GI tract as I do with respiratory and really you could get much sicker much easier than me.

MAJ Byron Oyler - Roger that on the gut bug. Especially botulinum intoxication. Potentially deadly. I think the one that I have wanted to avoid the most is anisakiasis. None of the gut bugs are good to get, and yes, those were of primary concern. I don't know how many hundreds of boxes of disposable gloves I must have gone through in my career, but it was likely a significant number. I used those things like they were going out of style, also hand soap and hand sanitizer by the gallon.

MAJ Byron Oyler easy and very good advise. One of the keys is one can still have good manners as you explain. Thanks for the comments.
