I would think flying in the air makes you a better target and harder to shoot back

That was why the air jeep and the flying platform weren't further developed. Late 60s if I remember correctly.

Wouldn't it make more sense to start out with the Navy version of the Army Vulcan? Then increase caliber size as needed, if needed?
