Good info, but they aren't secrets. Just remember, no one owes you anything. You get no special care by employers. The question is are you the best person for the job.

Amen 1stSgt, it was very frustrating interviewing veterans who thought they deserved a job or certain salary because some transition organization pumped it into their head that a "certification" or degree automatically nets you $x,000 more. I always recommend studying the company and see how your skills fit there.

Here's one - retired military who have only ever worked as government contractors since the day they got out are likely not the best to advise on how to work in the true private sector. That was one of my biggest frustrations with transition training. Talk to people outside the military to find out what they really value and how your experience fits into what they are looking for. Better yet, find a National Guardsman or Reservist who actually works away from Uncle Sam and ask them how they combine their skills.
