I see this as another way of raising the price of oil, as if Biden hasn't done enough.

Ever once in a while I like to do a deep dive on a post and as this one is rather interesting - prepare to dive.

According to my source it is in fact a UAE site as UAE stood down their military base in Assab, Eritrea which is on the other side of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. UAE began construction 4 years ago and for whatever reason they stopped construction. The island is a rather inhospitable place as such guessing that had something to do with the break.
Lots of info on twitter

However there's more to the story which involves the US, Iran and our foreign policy.

Back in Feb a plot to attack the UAE embassy in Ethiopia was disrupted by Ethiopia’s National Intelligence Security Service working with its Sudanese and Swedish counterparts. The plot was orchestrated by Iran. Guessing Iran was not happy with UAE's involvement with the fighting in Yemen.
As such the UAE is looking to minimize its footprint in Ethiopia and the island offers a bit of a safe haven.

I know this is bit of a tangent however the plot on the UAE sounds very similar to the attack on the consulate in Benghazi. As well a senior US defense official said the arrests were linked to an Iranian plot to kill the US ambassador to South Africa, Lana Marks, back in September. That plot was in retaliation to the killing of Qassem Soleimani. With Marks being a close friend of Trump and a member of his Mar-a-Lago club easy to understand why she was/is being targeted.

My guess with Benghazi, Iran/Russia hacked a server in a bathroom and found out the US was running arms into Syria via the consulate in Benghazi and in similar fashion bid out the attack with some logistical assistance via Iranian Quds. Ambassador Chris Stevens I fill was offered up a sacrificial lamb in order to get the nuke deal signed. So much for the Duty to Warn.

Thankfully Biden is abreast of the situation regarding Iran's intentions and is not caving to the pressure to reengage Iran in nuke talks as of now.

Rather interesting timing with the Gaza-Israeli aggression as well considering the over due Palestinian elections.

One satellite picture illustrating some of the complexity regarding the Middle East nexus.

As for the UAE this is a very sound geopolitical strategy in regards to regional power in their placement of the military installation.
