I wonder if the logistics are in place to support this regulation change. Are locticians and braiders that are knowledgeable about the Army-approved dimensions of braids, cornrows, twists or locs employed at the salons on military instillations? I know that these hairstyles can be both professional and culturally affirming if maintained properly.

That business is providing a service. A service that does not include braids, cornrows, twists or locs.

CPT Angela Wilder nor are they under any obligation to provide those particular hairstyles.
They probably will, because there's money to be made in doing so, but they aren't obligated to.

Yes, they are under no legal obligation to provide braids, cornrows, twists or locs but there is a potential loss of morale involved. See linked article: "Soldiers cheer Army's decision to authorize dreadlocks in uniform"

The specific dimensions for locs are quoted from the previous article: "Soldiers cheer Army's decision to authorize dreadlocks in uniform"

"For the first time, Army Regulation 670-1 allows women to wear their hair in long, twisted "locks," as long as the strands are less than 1/8 inch wide, the scalp is in a uniform grid, and, when gathered, the hair fits into the required bun size of 3 1/2 inches wide by 2 inches deep."

CORRECTION: Both locticians and braiders are not needed. Just 1 hairdresser can perform braids, cornrows, twists and locs. These styles typically last 2 months. They grow very long over time which may be a source of confidence for the wearer but intimidating for others.
