DC vs. AC always an interesting discussion. Electricity is not my strong suit. :)

Alternating Current (AC) vs. Direct Current (DC) - learn.sparkfun.com
Where did the Australian rock band AC/DC get their name from? Why, Alternating Current and Direct Current, of course! Both AC and DC describe types of current flow in a circuit. In direct current (DC), the electric charge (current) only flows in one direction. Electric charge in alternating current (AC), on the other hand, changes direction periodically. The voltage in AC circuits also periodically reverses because the current changes...

SFC (Join to see) - DC can be stored but expensive to transmit. That's mostly why AC won out. Cost of huge conductors was prohibitive. Both companies were active in creating an electric chair. Don't quote me, just from limited reading, and I stand corrected if off track.

CWO3 (Join to see) - You know more that me about this. Thanks for the clarifications.

SFC (Join to see) - You are tracking so you know more than you realize. AC can be stored via capacitors and RLC banks as a correction. Older cars stuck with DC generators and V regulators. Some had 6 volt systems. If they use an alternator (AC), it is converted to DC by rectifiers, full or half wave. HMMWVs had a 60 Amp alternator, some comm variants had a 100 Amp. Half wave DC looks this this on an o'scope - - - - etc. and full wave like this ------. DC can be explosive in nature, due to no alternations in current. DC motors can be highly efficient. 110 VAC holds on to an open hand, 220 to 440 will knock you loose. Both can be dangerous, but DC can be worse.

There like four companies handling electric where I’m at it was hard to find the one that handle the property where I was at I had to get numbers off the transformer around the neighborhood

You are lucky to have competition where you are at. I have some relatives around the Silver Spring area and their rates are through the roof.
