Yeah, its probably going to get ugly over there. Maybe someday our leaders will realize that we can't force our ways of life on other nations. And I wonder how Afghanastan Vets feel about this. We cannot keep starting wars with no goal. 20 years?

Our goal was to get Bin Laden and then we hung around believing them they wanted our way of life. I am sure all the Presidents of Afghanistan wanted our life but those at the bottom did not. I was there in 2006 and spent a lot of time taking care of and working with locals. To them our cause was a worthy cause but democracy takes a lot of work and so many there preferred treating their women like shit, man love Thursday, and opium. I think this place is very different than Vietnam and unlike Vietnam vets, we will not see a safe Afghanistan I can return as a tourist. The Vietnamese were willing to fight and die for their independence, Afghans not so much.

SSG Robert Mark Odom What 20 years produced.

...."More than 1,000 members of Afghanistan's security forces members have fled to Tajikistan, following advances by the Taliban.

Reuters reported that the retreats recorded on Sunday were the largest the country has seen thus far. Dozens of the individuals who ran off, however, were reportedly caught by the Taliban.

Tajikistan’s border guard service said 1,037 Afghan servicemen moved across the border with their permission after the Taliban seized districts in northern Afghanistan, according to the news service.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Takij President Emomali Rakhmon spoke by phone on Sunday to discuss the development, Reuters noted.

“Special attention was paid to the escalation of the situation in Afghanistan's northern areas adjacent to Tajikistan,” Rakhmon’s office said in a statement, according to the news service."....

Thank you. This does not bode well for the Afghans. I thought after 20 years we would I would see something in between a tiger and a paper tiger. It looks like I am wrong, they are paper tigers. The Taliban are on the offense are are taking over territory and the size of the Taliban force in totality is much smaller than the Afghan military. The Taliban also need logistical support, but hell perhaps they have not even fired a shot. lol

There is a difference. Our Continental Army soldiers often bleed on the snow due to a lack of shoes and wanted to fight the British. They had passion. The Afghan military thus far has shown cowardice.

I have always supported the concept of America trying to spread the concept of democracy around the world. However, we cannot do that by force.
Bush II got us into Afghanistan with no end plan (piss poor move) and no POTUS has had the political courage to get us out until now.
I feel sorry for the Afghan people, but if they do not have the will to fight, there is nothing more we can do. Time to come home.

Thank you President Biden!
