I'll probably catch hell for my answer, but why sue the city, mayor, basically the city council for what happened, if the police had been there, they would have been the targets instead of citizens, should sue those that caused the whole incident brother MSG (Join to see) , just my thoughts, nothing to be taken as gospel.

The reason why you sue the city is the deep pockets legal theory.
In reality, the Mayor set the tone by immediately condemning the police officers involved in the shooting before an investigation had been conducted and was instrumental in the officers firing.
The problem here was racial politics, it allowed the riots to occur and it discouraged police from taking any actions.
The problems were compounded by the District Attorney who was seeking re-election and made a number of questionable decisions that are now being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations..

MSG (Join to see) Which is exactly why it's a dumb lawsuit. They only care about getting money.

Money is the main object in almost every single lawsuit.
If you look at lawsuits where families sued due to a person dying in an altercation with police, there are many cases where the person wasn't exactly a role model. Many had long criminal histories including assaults or thefts from family members. Some families wouldn't even allow the person in their house or around other family members. Yet, that didn't stop them from suing.
In the above case, I have no doubt the family loved their 8 year old girl and deserve everything they can get from Atlanta.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I simply can’t agree, this “autonomous “ area was allowed to go on for days. Armed gang members running a road block and harassing people! What could go wrong? Gee the cops weren’t doing their job and it took the thugs just a couple of days to kill a child.

LTC David Brown So they sue the city rather than the perp because they could actually get some money?

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - no, because it is a police duty to provide a safe environment. Police were restricted from preforming this duty by government officials. This area was occupied for 23 days. Armed thugs bloc aided and harassed motorists and pedestrians. The government of Atlanta did nothing to resolve the situation. https://www.atlantamagazine.com/great-reads/23-days-stories-from-the-occupation-of-the-wendys-where-rayshard-brooks-was-killed/
23 Days: Stories from the occupation of the Wendy's where Rayshard Brooks was killed
For more than three weeks, protestors occupied the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was fatally shot by police. Here are the are the stories of four people who witnessed the occupation from four different perspectives.

LTC David Brown Still disagree, I'll use my bank analogy. A bank decides it wants to build in a location. It gets all the city permits, finally opens and 23 days after opening gets robbed. By your logic it's the city's fault it got robbed so the bank should sue the city.

Once again a deep rooted problem being addressed superficially. When something like this happens, we either blame the police, the politicians, or the criminals, but we never look for the real reasons.

MSG (Join to see) - I read that article 3 times. I saw nothing to indicate there were any " left wing extremists" involved.
It was a bunch of gangbanger punks. I doubt those hoodlums have a political thought in their heads.

MSG Stan Hutchison - I followed this case with interest because I lived in Augusta. The thugs were harassing people driving on a city road. This occurred about the same time as Chaz in Seattle. Gee armed delinquents, what could go wrong? This nonsense went on for many days. This was the Wendy’s that Brooks girl friend burned down. A “memorial “ had been set up to Brooks. People simply can’t run around while armed blocking traffic etc. The Mayor was in way over her head.

This occurred during the riots after Rayshard Brooks died. Pretty sure that if any far right groups were there, they would have been attacked and it would have made the news.

Report: Armed individuals won't allow cops into area where Rayshard Brooks died - 'Police not...
“The police aren’t allowed here - cause they’re not here to protect us…they’re not here to serve and protect anymore," they told media outlets.
