Lt Col Charlie Brown Why does it take so long to appoint someone to this position? I would think if a person was one of the finalist on the ballet for president they would already have a list ready for who they are installing in each of the positions they can.

Seems that way to me as well. Perhaps these second tier secretary's appointments are not planned until after the primaries are approved by the senate. Then they can use their clout to help push their appointees through the vetting system.

In my honest I'd say they do the main cabinet members first then start going for urgent secondary agency heads after the department heads are selected. Navy may not have been as urgent as another agency. Just my guess.

Each Administration wants their "Their Guy" in positions like this due to political posturing. IF they have their guy in the position, they can control them like they see fit. This isn't a Republican or Democrat thing, this is the way the game has been played.
