COL Mikel J. Burroughs one should work for something because it's the right thing to do... not for the recognition.

SGT Charlie Lee I agree with your statement. I have been a Security Supervisor with a Manager I don't always agree with but as his subordinate I support his decisions and do my utmost for the team because it is the right thing to do. He recently put in his resignation papers because he thought he had a better opportunity across the country. The Corporation offered me his position but when the deal fell through for him and he asked if he could keep his job I was asked if I were ok with that and I said yes because it was the right thing to do.

I agree, for many years I believed it didn't matter who got the credit. Eventually though it becomes a frustration to see others take credit for your initiative. I once gave my Undersheriff a sealed envelope with a idea to improve our intake and release operations. I then gave a copy of my idea to my immediate supervisor. After review he advised it was not feasible for a number of reasons. Two weeks later there was a new operations memo relating to intake and release. It was virtually identical to my suggestion. That day after my shift ended I took a copy of the memo to the Undersheriff. I asked him to review the memo against the contents of the sealed envelope. He read the documents and a furrow came over his face. He asked how long this had been going on? He also asked if it was the reason I was resigning, also. He apologized and offered to make things right. I was intent though on leaving, I had played by the rules so I thanked him for the educational experience I gained. I then turned in my equipment, went back to school, became a certified officer for another agency.

SGT John Graham - I applaud you for the way you handled the situation... very professional & honorable. In the end you took something negative & turned it in to something positive. I congratulate you on becoming a certified officer as well as your new position with a new company.
