That non-trivial bit of history should never be lost on us. We weren't just born as The United States... it was long journey and understanding these transitions is very important to understanding who we really are. First as British Colonies in an already inhabited land; United Colonies in armed conflict with the motherland; adopting formally United States of America as our country's moniker; still at war with the British the The United States of America adopts Articles of Confederation as our first national government (enduring 11 years, 3 months & 13 days) to be succeeded by the Constitution of the United States (232 Years 98 Days as of today).
