What's especially troubling is that you have two countries with nukes trying to show the world that they are someone to be reckoned with. This conflict is a potential powderkeg. The danger I believe is if one side started losing badly and they actually used their nukes. IF the damage was not as much as people imagined (due to shielding from the mountainous terrain, suboptimal detonation of the weapon, etc.), it might lead to a willingness to use them again... and again, in retaliation. Cooler heads need to prevail.
Which kind of begs the question, who asked Trump to mediate? Trump's visit to the Middle East and involvement in peace talks shows that [unlike Biden] Trump is respected. They may not like him but they DO respect him -- especially after he was proven right in his trade war with the Chinese, who I think most everyone around the world is seeing as a bully and they are not keen on the idea of China being the world's lone superpower. It's not just us that they sell cheap junk to. The Pakistanis are finding out that their Chinese Air Defense system was easily wiped out by India.
The Indian press reporting has actually been pretty matter of fact, and I believe India would crush Pakistan if they pulled their gloves off. But with the threat of nukes both sides seem to be showing restraint.

I'll bet both sides asked for intervention. Both countries may hate each other, but I dont think they collectively are stupid.
It's easy to have a battle to start things off, it's another to have cooler heads figure a way out to save face.
