I've done this many times. It's always interesting to see how things have changed and how they have stayed the same. Even satellite views have a different meaning when you've lived or been to a place.

It's a bit of the modern "this used to be a..." that I would get from my father and grandmother driving around our home town. I always laughed because they'd remember where the city ended when they were kids and it was FAR from where it ended at that present time. Now, I find myself thinking "this shopping center used to be a big field of trees" and realize I'm at the same spot they were. I have a whole set of bookmarked links to pictures of downtown Little Rock from times past. It's amazing how so much has changed, but a few little things are still there.

As I always tell my grandchildren, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. They are old enough now to see how it applies to them, very amusing for me. :)

It's pretty cool to look at some historic pictures that show how an area was. The government declassified aerial photographs our our Country from the WW2 era, probably at least 20 years ago or so that we used to use. As a kid growing up in the 60's I used to run around many Abandoned Mine Lands consisting of dumps, buildings and weird equipment; all that are long gone. it was so neat to see pictures of where I used to play as a kid. :)
