I suggest that companies hear out their employees on all topics whether or not they choose to do something about them. An open line of communication between workers and management is necessary for a well functioning business.

Very true. Additionally, human beings tend to gravitate to cultures that are compatible with their personal values. Hiring managers sharing a strong mission statement and a clearly defined company culture during the hiring process is imperative in deciding "cultural fit". Following hire, it is easier to optimize a skill set than it is to adjust core values, attitudes and behaviors.
