Sep 10, 2019: The Army did what other armies did, fight the land war. Then the 20th century came along and the Marines didn’t have enough pirates to fight and sailors cut down on mutinies.
In World War II the Marines earned their keep by doing the dirty work for the navy in the Pacific, amphibious invasions; or as Marines like to say, “kick in the door.” Yep, they kicked in a lot of doors. But so did the Army. In fact, the Army did the heavy lifting in the Pacific. During World War II, the Army deployed five times as many troops to the Pacific Ocean as the Marines. To this day, the Marines say that their job is to kick in the door. The biggest door we ever kicked in was D-Day, Normandy, 1944. The Army kicked in the door.

LOL!!! Chesty Puller is gonna be coming for you. However he did admit that what the 32nd Division went thru in New Guinea equal to anything the marines did. I spent my last years in the 32nd and am very proud of it's history starting with it being the Iron Brigade in the Civil War.
But we need to keep the marines. Where we have them means that they will probably be the first large unit that we can place anywhere. Besides, I hate getting my boots wet.

The American people believe that Marines are downright good for the country, that Marines are forms of masters of an unfailing alchemy which converts un-oriented youth into proud, self-reliant, stable citizens. Citizens into whose hands the nation’s affairs may safely be entrusted. And likewise, should the people ever lose that conviction as a result of our failure to meet their high, almost spiritual standards, the Marine Corps will quickly disappear.'
