A friend drew my attention to this article today. It is the second article I have seen reminding that the traditionally large Jewish population in Ukraine was targeted by the Russian pogroms in 17th and 19th centuries.
Back in 900s the Khazars were living in Southern Ukraine. They are known to have converted to Judaism, and are considered to be the origin of the large Jewish population in Ukraine, later to be known as Ashkanazi Jews.
The 19th century pogroms resulted in a huge refugee population being resettled in Palestine which at the time was ruled by the Ottoman Empire. It had to have been brutal since the Ottoman Empire allowed the immigration of huge numbers of Russian Jewish refugees from the pogroms that were targeting them throughout many decades, including those when Ottoman Empire and Russia were at war.
The articles makes it obvious that the current armed conflict resembles the pogroms.
However, apparently the U.S.A. has been stirring the pot, as it were, for the past 8 years of conflict (which has not had as much media coverage) - inquiring minds need to know why.

Although Ukraine has been Europes punching bag for almost as long as they have existed. Russia could care less about the national origin of the citizens, just the total domination of the country.

That may be very true, MCPO Roger Collins. However, some Jewish folks, and Israel see more to it than that, when it is like history repeating itself.

Let's not sugar coat it - the Russians regard Ukrainians the same way Hitler regarded Jews - they are not human beings - they are sub-humans, and therefore have no rights. Putin is SMF.

CDR Andrew McMenamin, PhD - I agee. It occurred to me, recently, that Russian pogroms may have motivated to Hitler's Holocaust. Haven't seen anything along those lines written about it, but I can't imagine someone has not connected the dots, yet.
