What Happened the Last Time the U.S. Tried to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent?

Here we go again! The US faces many problems, arguably created by the same government that is struggling to fix them. Still, it finds time to add another, Permanent Daylight Savings Time. WTF. We've been down this road before. In 1974, we instituted permanent Daylight Savings Time and quickly revoked it that first winter when parents became fearful sending their children off to school in the dead of night. Maybe that's the reason we're going down this road again. Our fearless leaders need a win. Come next winter when We the People once again discover the folly of permanent daylight savings time, Congress and the President will rush to fix the problem (hoping that We'll forget by then that they were the ones who created the problem).
