Wrong reason to legalize. And pretty sure they need to set aside a bit of that money to deal with increased homeless and down the road with addiction to other drugs. It is considered a gateway drug. But not every person will jump to something harder. But even if a small percentage do the can be a significant burden on an already stressed system. But pretty sure their politicians are like all politicians the never look ahead.

LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) - Michigan is splitting $42.2 million of marijuana tax revenue with 62 cities, 53 counties, 33 townships and 15 villages next week.

The 163 local units of government will receive over $56,400 for every licensed marijuana retail store and microbusiness in their jurisdictions. The money came from taxes charged at 374 licensed marijuana businesses in 2021.

Washtenaw County is receiving the most of any local government with over $1.8 million, followed by Bay County with the second most at more than $1.3 million and Genesee County with the third most at over $1 million.

Michigan collected a total of $111 million from the 10% excise tax on over $1.1 billion worth of adult use marijuana sales. Other fees and taxes allowed the state to collect $172 million in total marijuana revenue last year.

The Michigan Transportation Fund, which pays for road and bridge projects, and the School Aid Fund each will receive $49.3 million from the marijuana revenue.

“It’s rewarding to see that the agency’s balanced regulatory approach is effectively protecting consumers while still allowing Michigan businesses to grow and thrive,” said Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency Executive Director Andrew Brisbo."...
