I wonder if our schools are still teaching this information to children, and if they teach it in what light.

When I taught history, I included this with the Klondike Gold Rush and a couple of poems by Robert Service that the kids loved. My class even acted out the Shooting of Dan McGraw in the school talent show.

1LT Peter Duston - I don't remember my grandchildren talking about much of the stuff we were taught back in the 60's.

When I was in high school, the purchase of Alaska was taught in Geography due to the land mass. If you ask any of today's students about Geography, you are met with a blank stare & the question "What is Geography?" Such a vital part of our Nation's History & yet they know not even the capitol of the State in which they reside. Not knowing US Geography is bad enough but World Geography is a complete disaster to so many living today.

Exactly, I was amazed when my first grandchild never had any geography classes. Last ones are in high school now and still no geography while history class makes very little, if any, mention of Vietnam, my grandson only learned about it from JROTC, not regular history class.
