Because the KC-46 has not been declared operational, this “employment concept exercise” is designed to put the aircraft through its paces, ensuring it will be ready for fielding in 2023.

AMC spokesman Col. Damien Pickart further clarified that the KC-46 has already been tasked by US Transportation Command to do operational refueling missions over Eastern Europe.

If USAF mindset is as it was before my retirement, they are going to try to prove this addition to forces can out perform expectations.

I just had an eye exam and afterwards was thinking about the KC-46 camera issues. I'm very simple and look for simple solutions. Why not have lens filters for the camera like the phoropter. [The phoropter is one of the basic tools used by optometrists to measure the refractive error and determine the eyeglass numbers of the patient.] The Boomer could dial-in the selected filters for the refueling operation depending on the weather, time of day, and the location of the sun.
