So we already have issues with suicide and behavioral health and we want to allow those with pre-existing issues? The stressors of military life do not make behavioral health issues better and this is a bad idea.

My answer as a mental health provider and a former recruiting squadron commander is:
It depends. Many kids have have counseling due to ADHD, depression (that was due to grief over parental loss-normal response) and have been blocked from enlisting because of it. Others simply should not be allowed in. Each case needs to be evaluated on its merits just like juvenile crime offenses are supposed to be.

Those who enter the military, especially in combat roles allows for even greater morbidity and in some cases mortality. As a clinician of 50 yrs., therefore I oppose such a move. The construct of MI is too vague and it should also include drug addiction.

Similar to the standards being lowered for draftees for Vietnam, we need fresh meat!

I don't care what anyone says but the standards were lowered in 2007- 2010 when we were getting our asses kicked in Iraq.
