APOD: 2022 April 25 - The Great Nebula in Carina

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the April 25th Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "The Great Nebula in Carina." This image of the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372) was captured in Argentina earlier this year (March-April 2022). It is a 4X2 mosaic of high definition exposures that (according to the photographer's website) took nearly two days to render. We see here the entire 300 light-year expanse of the Carina Nebula using (I suspect) a good narrowband (Hα and O) filter to get the reds and blues to really pop out. Based on extensive x-ray data collected from NGC 3372, researchers suspect that multiple supernovae have occurred here in the past, and more can be expected in the future. The Carina Nebula lies about 7,500 light years from Earth.
