Watchdog Validates Decision to Move Space Command But Says Officials Didn't Keep Adequate Records...

When the Air Force announced plans to move U.S. Space Command from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama's Redstone Arsenal last year, Colorado lawmakers immediately demanded an investigation.
The state's delegation in Washington was alarmed at the move of the command and its 1,400 jobs and millions in funding to Alabama, and the lawmakers asked the Government Accountability Office, or GAO, as well as the Pentagon's Inspector General's Office, to make sure nothing unethical was at play. "We determined that, overall, the basing action process directed by the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) complied with Federal law and DoD policy," the inspector general's report said.

IMHO if the truth were known, the Senators are not so much concerned with the Space Force as they are in just keeping those personnel in their state for the revenue and jobs.

What I'm seeing here, and some anecdotal info. 4 AFBs and Redstone were in the running. Leads me to believe that the AF really wants to get and maintain control of SF. The primary role of SF is going to be a Marine and Infantry type of gig. AF higher echelon doesn't have that mind set. I spent 5 years at RSA in the 80's. It is the home of Army Calibration. The Army Primary Standards lab is located there and SF is going to need that level of Cal support nearby. The Marshall Space Flight Center is also located on RSA, meaning the expertise is already in Huntsville. All of the Multi-family enlisted quarters were demolished during the 90's and replaced by single family dwellings that now house others. Some new housing is going to have to be built, there's plenty available land for it.There is plenty of Barracks space already available. RSA has a small airfield. The Huntsville international Airport is less that 10 miles from the gate, it's large enough to land and takeoff the largest, heaviest planes available. Huntsville has the infrastructure to accommodate the growth easily. Using Redstone is pretty much a no-brainer to me. I haven't said anything sensitive here it's all part of the public record.
