Good analysis. The only part I would question is that Pelosi is a devout Catholic. I will leave the why of that to the understanding of fellow Catholics.

Like it not she was getting increasingly arrogant and cavalier with her public comments about the issue. What I find a little comedic here is Madonna is walking around saying she was ex-communicated three times (Church says she hasn't been yet) as a marketing ploy. Madonna is clearly aiming to get ex-communicated but can't so far....lol. I think the Church is going out of it's way to give Madonna what she wants. Now you have the contrast though. Madonna is still in good standing but Pelosi is not.

She knows that the Catholic church doesn't believe in abortion, but she believes she is above their doctrine, and prefers to follow her own rules SPC Erich Guenther

The Church would have accepted her position if she explained she was voting for what she thought was what her constituents wanted but she did not personally believe in abortion. They accepted that position repeatedly from other Democrats but this time she refused to recognize her own church as a authority in the matter.........which led to this.
