As aTSgt in our Command Post (whose name I can't remember) used to reply to noise complaints: Sir/Mam, that's the sound of freedom!

When I was at Offutt AFB, I'd see people in groups I was in "Why are those jets flying? They're so loud." Um...you live near an Air Force base...

And even around Army bases I've seen in mom groups I'm in about when they do night time training. "What's all those loud booms?" People tell them "Why do they have to do it so late?" Um...because we have to train at night since wars don't have a bedtime...*shrug*. It's mind boggling especially bases that have been in an area for 50-100 years. It's not new. And they let the community know when there is planned night training.

The head of my anesthesia group in Warner Robins was asked by his daughter why did those big airplanes fly over their house. His answer was that those plane brought money into Warner Robins. After she started telling classmates the planes were full of money, he had to explain that they didn't actually have money on them SFC (Join to see). Personally, I thought his original answer was spot on. Robins AFB, still is one of the largest industrial facilities in Georgia.
