Even if they could take guns away from those that have them,it's only those that have them legally that would be affected, those that have illegal, or illegally own weapons(Criminals) that would have them besides law enforcement and the government Lt Col Charlie Brown

There Are Hundreds Of Thousands or More Of People Who Would Not Give Up Their Legally Owned Firearms, Without A Fight , Local and State Police Forces Would Be Overwhelmed, They Would Have To Use The Military, Either Way It Would Be A Bloodbath on Both Sides , And All Of The “Buyback “ Scams They Have ,Don’t Offer The Value Of The Guns ,A Couple of Years Ago Baltimore Had A “Gun Buyback “People Were Taking Broken and Rusty Guns In , And Getting The One Hundred Dollar Gift Cards, A Friend is A Baltimore Police Officer, He Said in His District Over Two Hundred Guns Were Turned In ,And Not One Gun Was Shootable

There is plenty that can be done, but we have to get past the idea that the weapon caused the act, its a people problem.
No one in their right mind would commit such heinous acts.
I would get Hate mail for my proposals about how to handle people who commit such acts so I will let the rest of you debate that.
