About time. Having lived in Turkey back in the late 50s and early 50s, while they have been a strongly Muslim country, they are also a highly westernized one as well. Their economy is strongly linked with the west and NATO/EU. In fact they are a major player in the military arms market with numerous countries (to include the Ukraine) using their drones, small arms and other munitions. In fact they are competing with Israel in many markets. As the Russian invasion continues in Ukraine, Turkey sees itself as the next target of Putin's push for warm water ports and sea lanes.

Agree with you Tom. Turkey has had a fluctuating economy the past twenty years. Some member of the National Assembly blame the US for the economic woos. Along with Putin, other Muslim countries are pressuring Turkey to withdraw from NATO and "kick" to NATO forces out of Turkey. Recently, Turkey bought the Russian S-400 air defense system. Turkey, also, may [ yes, MAY] purchased fighter aircraft from Russian. They want 40 US-made F16s. Turkey has always played the "fence" with the US and Russia.
