Driving the news (literally): This Independence Day weekend is set to be the second-busiest for travel since 2000 with a record number of Americans planning to hit the road, according to AAA.
The group estimates that the share of people traveling by air this weekend will be the lowest since 2011.
In our region, AAA predicts that almost one million residents — about 90% of local travelers — will drive to their 4th of July destinations.
Why it matters: Our patience is about to be tested.

My lovely bride and I have the weekend all planned out Lt Col Charlie Brown , shopping on Saturday at Area 52(Walmart), fireworks tonight, wondering around close to home Sunday, and drive to see the 4th of July parade from the VFW hall in the next town over from us.

Our youngest will head to Montgomery, Alabama to Air Command and Staff College next week. Hopefully, since they are driving, the roads will have cleared out by then.

If there is one thing I have learned since moving (2015) to the Montgomery, Alabama area (Millbrook to be specific) is that there is always traffic in and around Maxwell AFB. You have I-65 and I-85 converging near the main entrance making rush hour a challenge. Best wishes on his training.

All the cancellations because the government, in it's wisdom, decided that pilots had to go from 300 hours of time to 1500 hours before they can apply for a job. Because of a plane crash where both pilots had well over 1500 hours of flight time before the crash.
And of course the pilots union was all for it. Less pilots means higher pay for them.
