It's obvious the match-up between Russian (essentially Soviet) doctrine and US doctrine is working for the Ukrainian forces. Back in the 80s and 90s, we ascribed, perhaps, too much power to the Soviet forces facing us in Europe. But it's better to overestimate the enemy than underestimate him, a lesson the Russians are learning to their dismay. It was our training to fight the Soviets that produced the force capable of destroying Saddam's forces, touted as "the fourth largest army in the world", in such a short campaign. If only there was a kind of CGSC for our political leaders, we might have fewer and shorter wars, and greater success in keeping the peace.
