If I say what I want to about the government and the erosion of military benefits, I would be censored for sure. I would, however, deny any health insurances that are paid for by the people of the US for any elected government official!

Thanks for sharing, my wife uses the Sable Park clinic mentioned in the article. We ask all the time about status but they tell us nothing has been decided.

SSgt David M. - Well, I don't know what VA you see but mine sucks canal water...hate them and will do everything I can to not go see them ever again!

However, this does not mention or impact VA in any way. This is for Retired personnel who currently use a select number of AD clinics on bases in CONUS under Tricare. For me this would be a fantastic option as I would love to see the provider my wife sees downtown but the AFB Clinic will not let me go off base.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - Well as I was raised in a Military Family and used Military Doctors until my late Dad retired in 1969, I can say that the treatment I received was always good. I say that as I survived long enough to attempt following in my Dads footsteps. One of the things that actually made me want to stay was the Medical coverage provided. As a dependent I was treated for a split skull when I was 5 years old. I was treated for over 125 Honey Bee stings when I was 10, I was also treated for a vicious dog attack as the age of 10, I received all my shots until my Dad retired in 1969. I was allowed to have surgery to remove a piece of metal from my knee that my local doctor was not able to remove at the age of 15. I was treated for a 5-ton wrecker wreak my first year in the US Army while stationed in Ludwigsburg, Germany in 1973. I also got stitches after slicing my leg open on broken glass in 1974. I was treated for being poisoned in Germany in 1975, I also had eye surgery after having a piece of metal impelled in my eye. After ripping my back apart in the US Air Force Reserve in 1984 I have been receiving the services of the VA, first in California, then in Virginia, then in NC, and now out of WV with services in Maryland. My guess is that you are one of those Officer's that is unable or unwilling to accept assistance as you have set the bar so high no one would ever be able to provide you the services at the level you believe you deserve. My guess is you have had to wait while other Disabled Veterans obtain much more needed services than you. You are not able to throw your rank around as you find that the world does not revolve around you anymore! You say that the level of services that you receive sucks, but have you submitted any reports to the VA listing the problems you have had? I have seen several very upset Veterans at the VA that have gotten into shouting matches with VA personal and most of the time it is due to the VA saying that they could not get a refill of a medication, or the patient was late to an appointment. The VA is understaffed, over worked, with limitations on everything. I agree with you that you should do all in your power to avoid going to the VA again for anything! One last thought for you; There are many Veterans, Retirees, and Disabled Veterans that are not able to go to a VA Clinic that would love to be able to if they could. I suggest that you try remembering how the services to you are provided by those who see more grateful patients! ;-) I SALUTE All My Fellow Veterans!!! GOD Bless America!!!

1.) I never said I had bad medical care...you assumed that. And that is different for every person. For you to make the supposition is wrong. I have had nothing but excellent medical care up till recently when the clinic has made it almost impossible to get to see the doc…they can’t make enough appts but they also want the numbers of enrollment to look good so they aren’t releasing patients for downtown care…self-licking ice cream cone. When I see the doc the care I receive is phenomenal. I don't want to leave my on base doc but it is easier to get care for all my issues caused in the military. Multiple serious issues that I wish I didn’t have. But if it meant I could do it all over again one more time I wouldn’t change a thing.
2.) For you to state "My guess is that you are one of those officers that is unable or unwilling to accept assistance as you have set the bar so high no one will ever be able to provide you the services at the level you deserve." That is utter Bovine Excrement. You don't know me and never served with me or for me therefore you don't have the right to state that about me! You don’t know me or my leadership style. I was enlisted (E-5) for 5 years (came in when I was 17) and then served another 21 as an officer. You sound like one of those NCO’s that couldn’t stand to take orders and hated all officers…just a supposition right? All this means a lot from someone who never deployed and served in combat…again supposition right?
3.) "My guess is you have had to wait while other disable veterans obtain much more needed services than you. You are not able to throw your rank around as you find that the world does not revolve around you anymore!" I have never thrown my rank around Period! When I retired it became Scott…and that is it. If they called me by my rank at a VA I told them it was Scott and that is where we left it. A disable veteran is a disabled veteran and ALL DESERVE the proper services. Not all wounds are visible! You don’t know my medical condition or issues so don’t assume that any other veteran is more deserving than me or that I am more deserving than them! When I went for a Disability claim visit the secretary took me to the room, the shrink never looked up from her computer, asked me two questions and five minutes later she said she was done and yelled out to the secretary to send in the next one. What I have been saying is that the VA close to me doesn’t see it that way. I know there are VA clinics and hospitals that are good and doing good things but the one nearest to me isn't even deserving of the name. They are rude and just plain mean. I have witnessed it to not only me but to other patients. See the attached weblink…in our VA system there have been aides filming patients die, getting bed sores, beating them up because they ask a question, etc. That is not how veterans need to be treated!
4.) Yes the VA is understaffed, woefully understaffed and if sending some patients out for private care helps alleviate the system for the more serious cases then so be it. And for you to state that I am an ungrateful patient…to be ungrateful means that something had to occur…VA hasn’t done jack for me around here and that is not being ungrateful that is self-preservation.
