We're all trained not to follow illegal orders. If Milley was concerned about Trump making illegal orders directly to his subordinates, it would make complete sense that he'd want his subordinate leaders to check with him first.

LTC Kevin B. - then why is he avoiding answering the questions of congressmen? The Military obeys the order of POTUS, but are answerable to Congress. I have to question why he felt the way he did, with a POTUS that used the least amount of military force in decades, who called a strike off because the collateral life lost was unacceptable to him.

SSG Robert Perrotto - Probably because he has already addressed these issues multiple times, and doesn't want to play into their political games.

LTC Kevin B. - So he has a choice? When Congress comes asking, no matter how many times, he IS required to answer. The Military is not autonomous, they answer to Congress, and he is not at liberty to blow them off. If they so choose, they can order him to report.

SSG Robert Perrotto - The military is part of the Executive Branch. They answer to the CINC. You don't know what legal advice he is getting. You don't know what command guidance he is getting either.
