Probably wanted a Bronze or Silver Star for his "heel spurs"!! I know! We can give him the Bronze or Silver Spur!!!

You have to earn your spurs, too. Silver spurs for completing a "spur ride" and gold spurs for combat in a Cav or Armor unit.
