SFC (Join to see) Texas, Oklahoma, and western states are going through a extreme drought. We cannot feed them through grazing and have no real expectation of using hay bails because of the drought. I have 12.5 acres and rent it out to the neighbor for bailing hay. we normally get between 35-40 bails of hay 2-3 times a year. this year we got 17 and a 2nd cutting is not looking good

Very tough times. Weather conditions are bad enough. Inflation makes it worse.

We got some relief from the drought this year. My son-in-law is still able to hold on to his prime breeding stock.

My Mom is going thru the same in Northeast Texas. Another major issue that few are recognizing is the loss of hay pastures to ever increasing urban sprawl. 44 acres ceased hay production next to our property as it was subdivided for people escaping Dallas' overpopulation. RV parks are popping up everywhere, as an affordable means to escape Dallas in this RECESSION and high land prices. For the most part, these RV parks are taking up 20 plus acres each. All of this is dwindling the amount of pasture producing hay. Mom lost two hay pastures that she used to count on for these reasons. The drought could have been weathered, had she not lost these pastures.

My Mother is forced with selling off her herd due to lack of hay. Hay yield has been dismal this year in North Texas. What we need to be concerned here, as Citizens, is Mexico taking advantage of the situation. Using NAFTA/USMCA as a premise, they will extort the politicians to move beef production to Mexican ranches. Much like with farming, this will put an end to individual ranching operations. Corporate ranches will lord over US ranching like they have done with farming. Mexico will boon, leaving America with greatly DECREASED food security. That truly is a National Security threat!
