LTC Eugene Chu HVAC Standards... Really... the wooden barracks at Ft. Polk in 1970 would have burned with a spark.
..."Our enduring obligation at Fort Bragg and as Army leaders is to take care of our people - our Soldiers and their families. Their health and welfare is of the utmost importance to our Army readiness," a Fort Bragg official said in a statement."...

And the old wooden barracks did not have any Air conditioning. Top bunks were thought to be cooler at Ft Knox in 1953.

CSM Charles Hayden - I was at Ft Knox in Sept. 1969... I "think" they were air conditioned. I KNOW Ft. Polk wasn't. I'm glad the Army is making life easier for the Troops... they deserve it.

I was just on Fort Bragg two weeks ago. After 17 years stationed there, I nearly cried at the totally appalling condition of the base. There are some parts of main post and Smoke Bomb Hill that look abandoned. Pope Air Force Base looks like it is derelict. There are parts of the base that look like there has been no upkeep on in literally years. I wonder where the Garrison Commander and Sergeant Major are. The Post Commander and Post Sergeant Major. FORSCOM Headquarters looks nice but a scant mile away it looks like abandoned shanties.
They should take the millions of dollars that it is going to cost to change the names of the Base, to change the maps and road sign and directory's and building signs and FIX the BASE. Hell, at least buy some lawn mowers!
