This boy could have been youngest when he jumped in that foxhole. It honors our Country to have such people.

It's amazing to me that this boy who endured as much pain and starvation as a POW could not speak harsh of his captors, ever! He jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire! He enlisted a boy and came out a man! And what a man and hero, he was! Great biography! Thanks for sharing SFC Bernard Walko.

Amazing. The people he served with get a lot of good credit too for doing what they could to keep one another alive.

Excellent article.

"He learned the wisdom of forgiveness, as recorded in his journal: 'Life is too short to hold on to hurt. Whether you’re hurt from being abused as a POW or from your daddy leaving when you were young, you got to set that hurt down. You’ll only hurt yourself when you harbor hate.' "

Wise words. Thing is about forgiveness . . . until what needs to be forgiven stops, sometimes hate is the only defense that can keep one alive. It is such a relief to be able to forgive, after.

However, the next time around . . . more substantial actions than only powerful wrathful hate are required . .. whatever it takes to evade and escape, imho, successful or not.

Good analysis. Wisdom isn't a word often used these days and maybe it should be taught properly to our young. They need a lot of help in the life experience area.

SFC (Join to see) - I have some concern about whether or not we are reaching our young in the ways they need reached.
Wisdom is something we could probably all use more of to some extent . . . I know I could. Bits and pieces often seem to arrive at surprising times and places in surprising ways!
