Afghanistan, 20 years of 1 year wars (9months for Marines) in which not one damn thing changed. The culture was corrupt and primitive and perverted (by our then, not now standards) and wanted to stay that way.
Both Austin and Milley were in positions to know what was going on while they were commanders. They knew the shitshow would collapse but yet we stayed with no clear goal of what success looked like. We had 16 KIA on my 2nd tour….for what?
F-them both.

I understand your frustration with the loss of your men. It's sad Afghanis didn't want to fight for the freedom to live their lives as they choose, not as an unchosen few choose for them.
As for your question, I don't think anyone has an answer and that is unacceptable from our elected and appointed officials.

A sad anniversary in United States history. We received 20 years that Afghanistan couldn’t be used as a launch point for terrorist operations. We should have received perpetual bases for us to evaluate security information and give us the opportunity to launch attacks against our enemies if we needed to, but that takes character, commitment, and foresight; three traits our Progressive Democrats just don’t have.

“As our country looks back on two decades of combat in Afghanistan, I understand that many people have hard questions about the costs of the war and what their sacrifices meant,” he wrote. “These are important discussions, and I hope we will keep having them with thoughtfulness and respect.”
