Russian mercenaries have dwindled in Africa from 20k - 30k to around 5k because of the war in Ukraine; most Russian mercenaries departed Africa for Ukraine, once it became evident that the the Kremlin's plan to annex Ukraine has proved too much for Putin to chew.
