Yep, it was just a matter of time. The lax attitudes towards pot have taken root. The downhill slide begins with this.

Well go look in the mirror to find the cause. Leadership is just a box to check. Officers and Senior NCO's know how to say the word but to lead that's a skill and task they avoid at all costs.
And Officers like you allowed it to get to this point by remaining silent and turning a blind eye.
I have 2 granddaughters and have advised them the military is not a safe place to be for a woman and they would most likely be sexually assaulted by a superior before they ever got to their first duty station.
Kids today are neither stupid or ill-informed and have seen the military dirty laundry and how they treat their members.

I fail to see, SGT, how your comments are relevant. First, I am a Mustang, and served five years enlisted before attending OCS. I served an additional 17 years as an officer, and this edict has nothing to do with rank and file leadership, it has to do with CIVILIAN DoD policy wonks who are chasing their tails over poor recruiting numbers. They are the ones who need a reality check. Lowering standards to fill slots will get people killed. As for your daughters, I feel very sad that you felt you needed to sway them from service. Although you may be closer to right than wrong, any job is what you make of it. Your daughters could serve honorably and safely giving the right command climate - but there are no guarantees in life. Be well.
