I personally believe the military is becoming too much like society. Too much woke. There is nothing that separates us from the outside. No one views it as a calling any more, just a job when the economy is tanking. People want to be part of something that is different something that sets them apart from everyone else...we aren't providing that any more. Standards are dropping to meet recruiting, retention, and training goals...uniforms aren't uniform any more...if you can find some sort of objection to a uniform item that's ok, we can work around it...no longer a uniform. We need the numbers so lets lower our standards. Young people aren't dumb, they see that and it really doesn't inspire them to join...there is no reason for them to join and live the life we all chose to live. That is my take.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth Good take, Col. A similar article was posted earlier, my response echoed yours in dofferent words. It has been a year or two since I pushed boots. Same for involvement in recruiting efforts in Puerto Rico. But it ain't rocket science, and I see no fundamental change in the world view of the base recruiting group. What is frustrating about the article is that nowhere did any of the apathetic hand wringers indicate that they were listening to the recruiting pool. The most important data comes from negative contacts. Are we recording their responses? Guaranteed to be telling. Anecdotal evidence is strong that DOD has chosen a CRT infused wokeness that is at odds with patriotic philosophies of the traditional recruiting pool. Is there dependable data to refute that? What programs do these beauracrats have to increase the social status of the military in High Schools and on College Campuses? Some of our perpetually aggrieved, permanently angry brethren here on RP deny that CRT are wokeness is even a thing (guess Milley lied?). Yet, even RP has been infused. Case in point, in milestone announcements, we are referred to using the third person plurals they/them. At it's most innocuous, is simply ungrammatical pronoun usage. Or, it could be that someone has unilaterally assigned us - without asking - pronouns indicating (left's new rules) we have binary sexual proclivities. Or, as they/them is plural, the insinuation is that we are so fat we have to sit on the long side of the table at Waffle House. At any rate, wokeness "lives large" in today's military, is apparent to the most casual observer, and is rejected by at least half the population. The half that comprises the traditional recruiting pool.

It's simple really in my mind. The bulk of your potential recruits come from two different groups, rural conservatives and disadvantaged urbans. When the economy is great and those in cities and small towns outside of those cities have opportunities enlistment becomes the last thing on their mind. When it comes to rural people and they see a government or military that doesn't represent their them or their values they stay away. Also alot of youth have a family member who participated in some sort of capacity in the war on terror be it the gulf wars of the 90's for terror or the 2000-2021 wars. When family or friends say all the bad things or they see the struggles of that person they care about jumping through hoops with the VA they say yes nope. The military is now close to the point of was prior to WW II. It's gonna take a global war to rebuild that industry complex and we may see it soon if Putin uses any type of nukes.

I believe you are right. The only way to fix it is a war unfortunately and I hope we don't get there. Too much innocent blood will be shed for nothing!
