@SFC Bernie Walko One current method of disposing of plastic waste is by burning it. Could the resulting heat be salvaged for propulsion of vehicles?

Good morning Chuck. Any heat can generate energy, I don't know what byproducts would be produced by a controlled burning of plastic. In theory if the byproducts weren't bad it could work.

I used to do things with my plastic GI Joes in the 80s with melting the plastic and the odors then made me think that burning plastic is not any wiser for the planet. Reality is that the human population overgrowth is the biggest threat to the planet and if we stop believing everyone is entitled to be parents and living forever then all these other problems would be less. Last July my 75yo Mother lost the cognitive ability to eat and we could have placed her in a nursing home with a feeding tube. Never what my Mom would have wanted and she passed peacefully surrounded by family. So many would not do this and a feeding tube would have been placed. These are some of the decisions that are destroying the planet, not gasoline engine vehicles.

Pretty sure you can't get rid of plastic by burning or any other way. The best thing to do with it now is to keep it out of the environment by burying it deep. Like nuclear waste. Hoping for a future solution. B

Electric is a great idea but they must find a way to do it that does less, not more damage to the environment. I think we are 30 years from that.

I agree with you, as the Wizard would say: If Ever!

Personally, I believe they will be part of the solution for very short range noncritical inner city driving. Hybrids will be the long-range selection as I don't believe this electric road thing will pan out, and the time batteries take to charge is just unacceptable when time is critical for what one is doing. SFC (Join to see) I am considering a Chevy Equinox next year here in San Antonio if I have a 40min commute for job at VA. Exactly as you mentioned, only for inner city driving.

The real problem with electric power is that it is not a bit clean. Sure, to get the clean megawatts you want in LA, you simply burn coal in plants around Hayden Colorado. This causes brown snow in Steamboat Springs and coughing people all the way west to Craig Colorado. With a 75% power loss through the lines. The long term solution to our electric needs is to make coal fired power plants more efficient and cleaner and the delivery lines more efficient. B
