The Mariners thank Dr. Ed Khalfayan, the club's medical director, for his 15 years of service.
WA's SEATTLE — Dr. Ed Khalfayan will hand over the reins to a new physician at the end of December, the Seattle Mariners announced today, after serving as the team's medical director and orthopaedic surgeon for 15 years.
Jerry Dipoto, the executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations for the Mariners, said, "On behalf of the Mariners and all of our players, I want to thank Ed for all he has done for the team the previous 15 years. His contributions were essential in creating improved orthopaedic care for the Mariners and sports medical programmes.
Dr. Ed Khalfayan remarked, "I've enjoyed treating elite baseball players and learning even more in-depth information on elbow and shoulder ailments. "The Mariners have provided me with a unique experience that has inspired me to always stay up to speed with advancements in orthopaedic sports medicine, surgical techniques, and nonoperative options like regenerative medicine or biologics," the author says. I'm proud of the achievements of our medical teams, including receiving the 2013 MLB Award for Best Medical Staff, Khalfayan said. "Over the past 15 years, I have had the honour of treating and operating on Mariner players. However, I do not believe I can continue to commit the necessary time to give the Mariners the best treatment possible due to the demands of my private practise at Orthopedic Physician Associates and my responsibilities as the Head Team Physician for the Seattle Seahawks. I've decided to resign so that I may devote more time to my family, my orthopaedic practise, the Seahawks, and other projects. I want to express my gratitude to the Seattle Mariners organisation for this fantastic opportunity. It has been an honour to work for the Seattle Mariners organisation and ownership because I have a lot of respect for them.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Mariners have chosen a new orthopaedic surgeon in close consultation with Dr. Khalfayan. The name of the new doctor will be revealed the following week when they begin their work.
