Those saved many lives during wartime! They were great for detecting the enemy!

Awesome story. About 5-10 years ago I participated in a motorcycle escort for the war dog memorial statue being delivered to Columbia, SC. Our group was responsible for the segment travelling the interstate from the North Carolina/South Carolina border to Columbia. While we were staging at South of the Border I had a chance to meet former dog handlers from the Vietnam era. If I recall correctly the dogs were not allowed to return stateside and many were euthanized. Politicians, the media, and animal rights activists fought and won the battle to allow the handlers to have the option to be reunited with their dogs after they were retired from active duty. There are many groups in the US that have war dogs available for rehoming. I'm happy that Mally is now living large in her forever home. Thanks for sharing this article.
