Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the December 3rd edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Stereo Mars." The whole "cross your eyes" thing never works too well for me, but these are certainly two clear images of the planet Mars. From North Carolina, Mars currently rises in the southeast around 7:30PM, and sets in the southwest shortly after sunrise. These views of Mars were captured from a rooftop telescope in Indonesia.
Next to their clarity, the one thing that impresses me most about these photos is the whitish donut shape at 1 o'clock. That's a volcano - Olympus Mons - and its the largest known volcano in the Solar System. Mars will reach its opposition (directly opposite the Sun relative the Earth) on December 8th.

Works great for me ... if you are crossing your eyes and get 'four' images, then you've crossed them too much or too little. Just stare at them and cross your eyes slowly until you get three images.
