Black holes have always been the most captivating thing in all the astronomy shares I've seen.

Something about the way the 'organize' space around them by bringing everything under their gravitational influence into their swirling 'artwork' of space.

Appeals to the human mind's craving for structure, even in an unstructured universe.

COL Randall C. Here's a couple of other pertinent black hole tidbits: X-ray data suggests the center of NGC 1365 has a mass of 2,000,000 solar masses, and that it rotates at near the speed of light. Talk about one big celestial gyroscope.

Maj William W. 'Bill' Price - Absolutely. The numbers are absolutely mind-boggling...

The sun is about 333,000 times the mass of the earth, so that would mean NGC 1365 is about 666 BILLION times the mass of the earth.

According to Universe Today, the Earth has a mass of about 5.9 sextillion tons (5.9x10^21 tons) give or take, so that means the mass of the NGC 1365 is around 4 Decillion tons (4x10^33 tons or 4,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons)

It's like the US Debt ... when it gets to a certain point it's just too big of a number to grasp.
