He has been on vacation most of his administration. They say one should pause to smell the little girls hair or roses, depends on the person .

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Whether or not Dobbs bring us to back-alley abortions is a two-level decision.
1)Dobbs didn't make abortion illegal. It turned the decision back to the voters of any given state.
2)Even if the elected legislature of a state makes abortion illegal or sets conditions that a woman finds onerous, she is the one who decides to go for the back-alley abortion or not. I think it is a slippery slope to allow something because "people are going to do it anyway." Will we make schedule 1 Narcotics legal but require people to use them in approved facilities?

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - You have more faith than I that librarians can control access to books on an individualized basis. In junior high they could even stop us from making out between the stacks.

I believe we are in a temporary period where people want to overturn traditional social norms. There is some "glamour" to being "different." Maybe it will last, I doubt it. Some good will come of it. Lots of bad will come of it. No one knows better than parents for what their individual kids are ready and for what they're not.

And this goes beyond issues of sexuality and gender. I don't know if you are familiar with a book called the "Turner Diaries." I became familiar with it as part of a community task force trying to counter white supremacist recruiting efforts of school age children. It is as good an argument for censorship of racist propaganda as there ever was or will be. Yet you and I indirectly pledged our lives to protect the author's right to write and publish it. There is no right to demand that children read it.

I'm sure there are some racists who would love to see it on the shelves of public schools. The Turner Diaries should NEVER have a place in a public-school library. And I think that is good and right that the voters, directly or indirectly through an elected body, should be able to say "Not in this school. Not for these kids." And for those who want their kids to access it, go buy it from a private source. Will you bet that not one librarian in a public school somewhere in America is a white supremacist? Do you want that librarian unchecked by concerned parents?

Maj John Bell I chuckle a bit that in this day and age people think that banning a book will keep their children from reading it. Back in my day it was "Lady Chatterlys Lover" that was banned from the high school library. Guess what, the town library had it so we went there to get it.....the wait list was quite long!

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - One big difference from when your family arrived and mine as well is there were no social services like medicaid, social security, and welfare; if our families did not do well they starved. They did not receive 1st world medical care in 1917 at the level and cost they do today. I have people on a regular basis ask for prescriptions in my ER for over the counter medications because medicaid and medicare do not pay for non-Rx written meds. Meds like tylenol and benadryl they want as a script because they cannot afford a $3 bottle of benadryl. I am talking about people less than 30 with children. There are huge costs to our government you likely never see. I lived on the border in El Paso for four years and while the right likes to make things big and the left downplay them, unless you are on the front lines of some of this it is very easy to be in the dark. The people dying in the New Mexico desert from being left by coyotes does not make the press on the regular. The border crisis is as much one for the illegals that pay $8-$10K only to be left to die is as big a crisis for them as native born citizens. It is horrible what is being allowed to happen to these people on the border and it is not because the GOP want to lock it down, it is because people do not want to stop the encouragement of illegal passage that is harming them.
