I have been taught my entire life that we need to prepare for a "rainy" day and have a food storage, at a minimum of 1 year's worth. And that's food that our family eats, not what someone else would recommend. Canned goods, non-perishable items, so if things get bad, we have the resources to at least eat. As I have gotten older, the need for other resources has become more apparent. Financial savings, basic resources of home commodities (ie toilet paper and other paper products), and things that are life supporting. My family is not there yet, but we are working on it.
