That is the secret sauce that typical Progressive/Socialists just don't get! Great comment.

Pay raises are normally based on inflation. This amount makes sense given the recent inflation rates.

LTC Kevin B. It helps but I think the inflation rate is actually much higher given the prices at the grocery store. I'm pretty sure it's much more than 8.7%. I wouldn't mind getting this raise right now! We got a lousy 3% last year.

I can understand your thinking, but wasn’t President Biden just talking about increased pay for everyone just a short time ago? Part of the reason for inflation was unjustified increased wages for many. It can be a vicious cycle. I used to try to explain to my mother saying: Mom, what good is making $20.00 and hour if a cup of coffee costs you $30.00?

Biden touts rising wages, but inflation has kept workers from enjoying the benefits
(The Center Square) – President Joe Biden touted Americans' rising wages over the weekend, but a closer look shows there is more to the story.

Cpl Vic Burk - Wages can go up when companies can afford to raise wages. Considering most businesses are small, it's going to be awhile. Historically the tradeoff for working for the government if less pay for job security. That's what I got in my career. I could have made 2 to 3 times what I did over my life, but my life at home with my family was more important to me.
