India proposed on Wednesday 5.94 trillion rupees ($72.6 billion) in defence spending for the 2023-24 financial year, 13% up from the previous period's initial estimates, aiming to add more fighter jets and roads along its tense border with China.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated 1.63 trillion rupees for defence capital outlays - an expenditure that would include new weapons, aircraft, warships and other military hardware, as she unveiled nearly $550 billion of total federal spending in the annual budget for 2023-24 starting in April.

Indeed, Ma'am; China has been and will continue to try to strong-arm India into giving up its territorial land in exchange for peace.
China's tactics is based on its victory in 1962, where in exchange for peace India lost Aksai Chin to China. At that time India didn't have the military strength to counter China's expansionism into the Kashmir Valley.
Although today, unlike 1962, India's military might is sufficiently posed to counter any misadventures by China into Indian territory, and China knows it. The clashes at Demchok and DBO were intentionally planned by China to engage India while its troops occupy land up to the Shyok, again. However, India denied Chinese troops any advancement into the Union Territory of Ladakh.
In more recent times, China has attempted to invade India along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast. China claims the Arunachal Pradesh is part of China. Historical evidence proves that the British East India Company placed the North Agency Frontier Agency (old name of Arunachal Pradesh) under the charge of India prior to Independence in 1947. In 1971, Arunachal Pradesh became a Union Territory, and in 1987, it achieved statehood in India. China has no constructive reason for its claim, except to expand its territory into India, and weaken India's defenses.
