I have been saying this about the "support a family of 4 on minimum wage" concept for YEARS now. If you have a family of 4, GO MAKE MORE MONEY.

Way back in an earlier millenium, minimum wage was considered a transitional wage, not a living wage, SFC Casey O'Mally. Folks just entering the job market (e.g., unskilled teenagers fresh out of high schoool) would get paid minimum wage until they demonstrated that they were worth more money.
And folks living getting paid minimum wage generally didn't expect to live fully on their own at that wage -- roommates were almost a given.
